Serverless Postgres
Serverless PostgreSQL platform with branching and autoscaling.
A serverless Postgres platform with instant database branching and scale-to-zero, billed by usage; now a Databricks company.
Neon is serverless Postgres. It separates compute from storage so databases can autoscale, scale to zero when idle, and branch instantly like Git, billed by actual usage rather than a fixed instance.
Neon is standard Postgres, no fork or proprietary API, delivered as a serverless service. Its architecture separates storage from compute, which enables two signature features: scale-to-zero, where an idle database suspends and costs almost nothing, and branching, where you can create a copy-on-write branch of a database in seconds without duplicating storage. That makes it practical to give every developer or pull request its own isolated database.
Pricing is usage-based. You pay separately for compute (billed per CU-hour, where 1 CU is roughly 1 vCPU + 4 GB RAM), storage (per GB-month), branching and backups. The Free plan is permanent; Launch and Scale have no monthly minimum, so a project that uses $3 of resources pays $3.
After Databricks acquired Neon in 2025, compute rates dropped 15-25%, storage fell to $0.35/GB-month, and the free compute allowance doubled. The trade-off: an always-on database that never idles runs the compute meter around the clock.
Create copy-on-write branches in seconds, like Git for your database.
Idle databases suspend and cost almost nothing.
Full Postgres compatibility, no fork or proprietary API.
Launch and Scale bill purely on usage with no monthly floor.

100 CU-hours/month, 0.5 GB storage per project, autoscale up to 2 CU, scale-to-zero. For development and side projects.
No monthly minimum; compute $0.106/CU-hour plus $0.35/GB-month storage. Typical starting spend around $5-15/month. Autoscale up to 8 CU.
No monthly minimum; compute $0.222/CU-hour plus $0.35/GB-month storage. Typical starting spend around $31/month. Adds read replicas and compliance.
