Bolt (bolt.new) is an AI app builder from StackBlitz. It turns a text prompt into a working web application in the browser and lets you keep editing it by conversation or in code.
Bolt runs the Bolt Agent, which reads your project, generates and edits code, and can test and fix its own output. Deployed apps are hosted directly from Bolt with a custom domain on paid plans, and every project can connect to a database.
Usage is metered in AI tokens rather than seats or messages. Each message spends tokens, and the largest cost is usually Bolt syncing your project files to the model on every prompt, so a bigger codebase or an error-correction loop consumes tokens faster. Three modes help manage this: Build updates code, Plan discusses an approach without changing code, and Discussion is pure conversation.
Paid plans include a monthly token allowance that rolls over for one additional month, remove Bolt branding, and add AI image editing and SEO features. Extra tokens can be bought in reloads.
